Summer News

Andrew has finished his South East Topper Zone training and working hard and sailing every weekend to try and get into the RYA Topper National Junior Squad. He had a mixed time at the National Inland Championships coming 4th in one race but in strong winds on day 2 he had gear failure and finished 86th out of 244 in the end.

Well here we are halfway through the year already—I really can’t believe it. The relentless burning of petrol continues in taking the children to their sporting events and Ian’s biking—he does a fair bit of rubber burning too!

Including a track day at Mallory  Park and another trip to the Bikers Retreat in Dolgellau

He also took part in the Eric Twiname National Junior Championships at Grafham and met Ben Ainslie our Laser Olympic Gold Medallist. Andrew was in the lead in the Toppers after day 1 by 9 points. Then on the Sunday there was no wind so no racing and the event was abandoned and no prizes given, Andrew was heartbroken. He got his first ever “pot” in an Open last weekend when he came 3rd at Medway.

Laura continues to volunteer for everything at school—cricket, netball, triathlon and athletics as well as swimming training 6 times a week  - where she gets her energy from I do not know, I could definitely do with a pint of what she’s drinking. She is doing the sailing and triathlon in the forthcoming London Youth Games and 1500m in the Borough Sports as well as representing the school in the Borough Maths Challenge.

On the work front Ian is still teaching at Heathfield and not satisfied with all the marking that involves has complains about having too much work and then volunteers to take even more on He has been doing stage lighting recently—ably assisted by Andrew ‘spotlight’ Fielder. Things are not helped by Ian ( I’m sick of marking ) becoming a moderator for GCSE course work—I really cannot see my lounge floor now. The postman must wonder what is going on as parcels of coursework arrive daily and we are not allowed to chuck the envelopes away in case something has got stuck inside!!!

I’m still at the Greenford Dental Practice and have managed to be lumbered with being the convener for our Peer Review Group on a periodontology topic!
